What is this?

It's a dressing room for playing out scenarios or what have yous related to the canon Zettai Karen Children by Shiina Takashi.

Can we play around with different characters?

Sure! Feel free to AU your characters into this setting!

But I don't know anything about this series?

There's some general world information below!

Are there going to be events/mod posted content?

On the first week of every month there will be a World Events post with a list of Predicted Disasters and World Events. Players are free to do with them what they want!

Do I need to participate in those?

Not at all! Feel free to do whatever you want!

Can I post memes?

Go ahead!

Setting

Tell me about Zettai Karen Children.

Zettai Karen Children is what you get if you combine X-Men with Gintama but with more boob jokes and less aliens.

It's set in a world where an increasing number of people are being born with or developing psychic powers and the problems that arises because of it. Are you an esper working to help build trust between Normals (people without powers) and espers to end discrimination or an esper trying to force this balance by committing crimes or acts of terror? A Normal who thinks ESP is a power for good and so advocates for espers to be able to live how they choose? Or do you think ESP will destroy humanity and act accordingly? The choice is yours!

Tell me about psychic powers!

Psychic powers are mainly divided into two categories: Pk (psychokinesis) and ESP (extrasensory powers).

PK is the power to use the mind to affect the surrounding world. Examples of this would be psychokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc.

ESP is the power to sense/read things. Examples of this would be psychometry, telepathy, clairvoyance and hypnosis (hypno), precognition (precog).

Can an esper have more than one power?

Yes! Espers with multiple powers are either synthetic power users or composite power users.

Synthetic powers take multiple powers and combine them into one power. For example, teleportation uses ESP to sense the space and pk to move an object to a new coordinate. Synthetic powers are many and varied, ranging from beast transformation, particle manipulation (turning ones self into particles) and...basically anything! If your character has a power that isn't easily translatable into a simple PK or ESP power just call it a synthetic power and call it a day! (That's what the author does anyway.)

Composite power users, unlike synthetic power users, have multiple powers that can be used separately. Usually composite power users will have powers with lower levels but there are exceptions...

Wait. Levels?

Psychic powers are given a level based on how strong it is! It starts at Level 1 (the weakest) all the way to Level 7.

Can Levels change?

Training can help an esper's power grow. Near death experiences or trauma could also cause this same effect.

But what does that mean, exactly?

Level 1-3: considered LOW LEVEL. Espers at this level can usually completely suppress their powers with Limiters and pass as normal people. Their powers are also hard to control because their psychic centre is weak luckily they can't do much with their powers.

Level 4-6: considered HIGH LEVEL. Espers at this level have better control and as they get to 6 most normal Limiters can't negate their powers completely. This is usually the level where you're likely going to be hired by a government agency but also could mean that the world hates you and excludes you and you end up becoming a criminal.

Level 7: Level 6 is the highest level that can be measured by the current technology. Anything beyond that is considered Level 7 and is incredibly rare.

Hold up, you mentioned the world hating high level espers. What's up with that?

In ZKC because people with powers are a minority so there is a great deal of fear and suspicion. High level espers are often rejected by schools, are not allowed to participate in competitive sports and are barred from entering places like amusement parks.

Level 6 to Level 7 espers are often not allowed to travel freely between countries without a lot of paper work being filled out ahead of time.

Uh. That sounds like it sucks.

It actually does. But many espers are choosing to work for governments in order to improve the relationship between espers and Normals! These are usually called Special Duty Espers!

But what if my character doesn't want to work for the government.

Well...some countries don't allow that. And others that do your character will find their employments options rather limited due to a variety of reasons. Chances are high that if your character doesn't work for the government they're probably a criminal or doing something less than legal.

In countries with a lot of civil strife espers are also often employed as soliders...even if they're children.

Okay can you give me some examples of organizations that already exist so I know what I'm dealing with?

Babel (Base of Backing ESP Laboratory): a government agency that nutures and does research on espers and their powers. It's primary goal is to use special espers to build trust between espers and normals. Special espers do many jobs from bodyguard duty, to dealing with criminals/terrorist, detective work, wilderness conservation, disaster relief and even answering the complaint hotline.

Pandra (???): a criminal organization beloved by all (or so they say). Full of espers who were abandoned or misused by others because of their powers they commit crimes such as theft, selling of weapons and other such things. They are, however, a safe haven for espers who have nowhere else to go.

The Foundation: an organization that targets esper trafficking but does not always work within the law. Unlike Pandra which commits crimes, and Babel which is bound by the laws of a country, the Foundation does what is necessary in order to save espers in need.

Black Phantom: an organizations that brainwashes espers and sells them to the highest bidder like merchandise. They have ties with multiple world governments and works in the shadows hoping to spread fear and hatred.

Does my character have to be in one of these organizations if they're an esper?

No. I just listed them to give you ideas of where your character might end up. Similar organizations to these probably exist elsewhere as well.

Dressing Room Mechanics

What are Predicted Disasters?

Babel's precog department regularly predicts disasters and special duty espers are sent out to prevent them. Predicted Disasters will be posted monthly and characters can interact with them as you see fit! Is you character a government esper sent to prevent the disaster? Or the criminal trying to cause it? A passerby who just got caught up in it? Or maybe the prediction was a dud and your character and their teammates are bored? It's up to you!

What are World Events?

Just stuff happening around the world your character might be affected by.

What is a Character Info Card?

It's just a little something you can fill out on your journal so other people playing with you can know a little about your character. It's not required but it might be easier than having to constantly type out what powers your character has. The template is here
